JazakAllah khair! I want to improve my relationship with Allah and the only way to do that is to follow the Qur’an and sunnah! Brothers and sisters don’t wait for everything to come to you, you have to put your part into your life and strive for success. You will turn back to Allah only if you turn sincere to him and look for success. Show Allah Subhanahuwata’aalah what great Muslim you are and be devout as much as you can be, and insha’Allaah with your sincerity in worship you will be rewarded with Jannah Insha’Allaah. assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

I am often intrigued that only hadith relating to Sitting while drinking water is narrated, as if standing and drinking is an act highly against Sunnah as well as detrimental to one’s health.

While al Bukhari narrates from Hz Ali ibn Abi Talib rz. (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he drank whilst standing then he said: Some people say it is makrooh for one of you to drink whilst standing, but I saw the Prophet s.a.w. (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) doing what you have seen me do. (International Hadith numbering: 5615)

Imam Al-Nawawi rh. (may Allaah have mercy on him), a leading Hanafi Hadith and Fiqh scholar has commented on this issue:

“There is no contradiction in these ahaadeeth (of sitting or standing while drinking water), praise be to Allaah, and none of them are da’eef (weak). Rather they are all saheeh. The correct view is that the forbidding mentioned in them is to be understood as meaning that it is disliked. The fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drank whilst standing indicates that it is permissible to do so. This is all that needs to be said on the matter.”

Also, I have even learnt from reliable sources that Imam Shafi rh. used to drink while standing. And Imam Shafi is considered a weighty personality in the fields of both Hadith and deriving Fiqh thereof.

Requesting moderators in all humility to acquaint themselves of the exact Sunnah of Prophet PBUH from the authentic narrations from him. And then the information should be made public, May you be guided by will of Allah.
