Schools in the Middle East have shorter periods for the entire month of fasting. Mid-afternoon just before Asr prayer is when hunger is at its peak. My parents weren’t really the most crafty folks so they either let me watch cartoons or sleep through the hunger pangs until Maghrib. Today as a mom, I found out there’s a better way to divert your children’s attention away from hunger pangs. Instead of letting them watch TV or play the console, make time to get crafty with them. Incorporate Ramadan themes into the craft to keep them on the right track. You can create DIY daily planner or scrapbook, DIY Ramadan placemats, Ramadan calendar, or dua’a cards – all these they can decorate to their heart’s content.
