Islam attributes great importance to the honor and respect of elders.

Assalam alai kum Sister Lara,

the answer to your question is right there in the Quran.

“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.” ( Surah Al Isra :24)

Do good and be patient and seek the reward from Allah swt. No matter what they say, we shouldn’t answer back. yes it is going to hurt and sting but it better to be patient and continue to do good, seeking Allah’s help to do so and also the reward .

You never know , the patient and good attitude might encourage them to actually embrace islam.
And we should never forget, ” at the end of the night, there is a beautiful dawn awaiting us”. in sha Allah.:)

help can also be sought from therapists. Sis Haleh Banani from Dallas offers consultations .

i pray that i was helpful.
jzk
Sana

Good article with many Qur’an ayats. My question to you: How do we treat parents who are not Muslim and have betrayed during childhood with abandonment through divorce and sexual abuse through remarriage? Both parents still alive one semi accepting conversion of daughter, the other parent rejecting and essentially disowning. Much disrespect from both non Muslim parents. Still doing/saying things that seem like betrayal.

I have also learnt a lot from my deceased mother…. may Allah in His Infinite Mercy grant her jannah, In Shaa Allah. I always shukr Allah for granting me and my family so much. I also never neglect to continue to ask Allah for the best for my children and all the other parents’ children. We can only excel in our lives thru asking Allah to grant others that which we wish for ourselves and our families.

Getting up during the night and asking Allah whatever it is we need for ourselves and our children is the best we can do. For years now it has become a practise with a lot of parents, and Algamdulillaa, we can see that Allah in His infinite Mercy and Wisdom hears, sees and knows everything. Always put your Trust in Allah, for surely He never disappoints anyone. We must just have that Sabr and Perseverence and be Consistent in our prayers and sacrifice, In Shaa Allah

Alhamdoulillah. Things happen in our life. Our Rabb loves us 70 times more than our mother. Born to a mother who gave birth to 15 children and being the 7th child, I used to ask her to tell me secretly the child she loves the best. She used to say she loves all her chidren. A man could never know, what it is to be a mother. but if Allah give him the oppertunity, to thank HIM, he can just imagine what it is to be grateful. For Allah’s sake I am greatful to the author and Productivemuslim. Please continue only for our Rabb.
