Assalaamu ‘alaykum,

Dr. Nurallah you are absolutely right in turning to Allaah during in all times of difficulty, and asking for ease from Him alone during labour. However, this doesn’t contradict or negate the tips Sr. Umm Abdirahman gave which are also very helpful in preparing the mom-to-be for childbirth.

I would like to add that what I found really helped me, along with the tips in the article, was having a good opinion of Allaah and expecting an easy and quick labour. I did most of the things in the article, even took prenatal classes with my husband. Worked on developing certain muscles etc. But I knew the end result wasn’t up to me. So I kept thinking positively. I would often say to family members, “oh the labour will be so quick I won’t have time for an epidural”. In the days leading up to labour I increased my ibaadah and made more dua, knowing that during post-partum I wouldn’t be able to do as much ibaadah. Alhamdulillah, Allaah delivered as I expected, and for a first time mom my labour was very short with no complications.

One other thing I want to add along with preparing the husband is preparing other family members who may be around during your labour. Give them an idea of what to expect and where you keep certain items (hospital bags, ids etc.).

This is a highly Islamically bankrupt and spiritually poor article! It’s dry and can as well be gleaned off any book on childbirth written by any nonbeliever. What’s with us? Only once, once was ALLAH mentioned in this socalled article for Muslims! Well, for starters; when a woman is in the process of conceiving, let her open the pages of The Glorious Qur’aan and read the story of Sayyeda Maryam, learn the prayer of her mother, prayers of Prophet Ibraaheem, Zachariyya, Peace of ALLAH be upon them all, for blessed offspring’s. Is that not what we all want? And as for the difficulties anticipated at time of pregnancy and labour, let her pay more attention to her spiritual activities eg reciting the Holy Qur’aan or listening to it,thikr etc. Talking about thikr, keep reciting the beautiful Name Yaa Salaam, for ease or peace or Yaa Raheem, for mercifulness or well being or Yaa Lateef, for subtleness or ease.Keep invoking severally continuously. Research on” To ALLAH belongs the most beautiful Names, (therefore) call upon HIM with it”(Holy Qur’aan). This is tested and trusted way of dealing with challenges be it pregnancy or not. Not excluding physical exercise but count on ALLAH first through the aforementioned methods. May all the best blessings, peace and salutations of ALLAH be with HIS best servant MUHAMMAD as we ask for forgiveness and mercy.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam)

said: “The woman that dies in her virginity or during her pregnancy or at the time of birth or thereafter (in nifaas) will attain the rank of a martyr.”

It is mentioned in another Hadith that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Does it not please you (O Women!) that when you conceive from your husbands while he is pleased with you then that woman will receive such reward equal to that of a fasting person in the path of Allah and spending the night in ibaadat. When her labour pains commence the inhabitants of the earth and the sky are unaware of the stores of comfort that are prepared for her. When she delivers and breast feeds her child then she will be granted a reward for every gulp of milk, and if she had to remain awake during the night for the sake of her child, she will receive the reward of emancipating seventy slaves in the path of Allah. O Salaamat! Do you know who these women are? They are pious, upright, delicately natured but yet are obedient to their husbands and not ungrateful to them.”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “A woman from her pregnancy till the time of weaning her child is like one protecting the boundaries of the Islamic state. If she passes away during this period she attains the reward of martyrdom.”

In another Hadith it is mentioned that, “The woman who dies of labour pains is regarded as a martyr (shaheedah).”

A woman should therefore gladly bear these difficulties patiently and calmly as she will be highly rewarded.

Hazrat Mail bin Yasaar (radiyallahu anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Marry such women who are loving and produce children (in abundance) because (on the day of Qiyaamah) I will vie with other Ummats and be proud of your numbers.”

In another Hadith Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said: “Even the miscarried foetus will drag its mother towards Jannat if she exercised patience with the hope of acquiring reward.”

I have also read and experienced that eating dates helps during childbirth as stated in Surah Mariam.
I read a Hadith that if u eat watermelon during pregnancy then the child will have good character.
I hope that I have given correct information in shaa Allah.
