Assalamu Alaikum wrwb Emran,

Jazakh Allah Khair for your comment. To answer your question, ambient/ environmental sounds are not considered as music as these are naturally occurring sounds and no musical instruments are used to record them.

This report does not recommend listening to music in any form- the research is presented and we are showing how we can adapt it as Muslims in the “solutions” provided.

Though, i still have one question – I listen to slow piano and most of it falls under ambient music. Also the work of Brian Eno, Marsen Jules, Shuttle358 – this is what i listen to when i am doing my creative work. So can you please elaborate are these music could fall into halal or haram? I do understand you are not in the position to give Fatwas, but apparently the topic of ambient ‘music’
is largely absent from Islamic scholars.

Thanks,

I have found the background audio very helpful and advantageous to my collection of dhikr; I can now enjoy the amazing sounds of nature that Allah SWT has gifted us with while doing my work- a perfect combination of productivity. For a lack of time and a super busy schedule, I find myself not engaging in dhikr as much as I used to. To make it up, while doing school work I would play Quran in the background to reap some reward. I did feel the guilt for dishonoring Allah SWT’s words in doing that. Alhamdulillah I now have a form of dhikr I can substitute for it so that I am not disrespecting the Book of Allah and also taking advantage of His blessings. I am currently listening to The Perfect Storm audio (my favorite so far) and am truly feeling the calmness of nature.

I make du’a that Allah SWT blesses this wonderful work and helps Productive Muslim to grow so that it reaches those much beyond this circle of recipients.

Salaams. During my research, I did not find any evidence to suggest that trance music could be beneficial.
However, as trance is a version of electronic music and uses melody, I feel it’s better to use our other available options- ambient sounds, natural environmental sounds etc.

And Allah (swt) knows best.
