Let me share a secret with you Amna, I’ve always found programming to be a scary monster to me, and I still do because my undergraduate lecturer failed at teaching it the proper way, so I have to live with being programming-phobic.

My line-manager during my placement year advised me to start any programming task on a new white sheet, do all the psuedo-coding on the paper and discuss the idea/implementation of the final software (prodcut) with the supervisor/manager. This way, you don’t have to spend significant time programming then discuss the results later with your supervisor. I found this to be useful to me, because I’m honestly a slow programmer. May Allah ease it for you.

I think it was Thomas Edison that once said “genuis is 1% inspiration (being smart) and 99% perspiration (hard work).” See what’s best for you in doing programming and stick to it, the challenge is not finding your own secret in doing things, but rather committing to it, hence take patience as a “safety requirement”.

You said it all here Shahida. Your wise words replace all of this interview subhanAllah. What’s the point of our hard work if we don’t have our trust on Allah, and what’s the point of trusting in Allah without the hard work that we’re required to put in as Muslims and productive ones inshaAllah.

Wa alaikum assalam Saima,

For those who have limited free hours in their day and do hard work during the day and/or night, the humble me would suggest to keep reading the biographies of the prophet -peace be upon him- and his companions -may Allah be pleased with them all. Those people were outstanding with their day/night performance, yet they always put Allah first. Abdurrahman ibn Awf -may Allah be pleased with him- was an extremely wealthy man from trading i.e. signifying his hard effort at work, yet he was one of the promised people of heaven i.e. signifying his hard work in faith whenever he can.

I believe the secret lies in sincerity to Allah in our work and regular supplication to Allah to strengthen you in your work. I’m sorry if I don’t have a manual-like recipe for this, but the best I can suggest is to liaise to Allah and ask him for guidance, liaise to Him with supreme humility and let those Iman-based tears shed begging Him for his mercy and guidance, and, wallahi, He is enough to guide you and give you ‘ilham’ on what you should do at what time to get the most of the two worlds inshaAllah.
