Could relate to it so much as an avid gamer!
As a youth, i myself have been struggling against my intense passion and addiction for video games.. Installing a game, playing hours on end (like literally crazy with eyes red by fajr time), then uninstalling it with regret for the wasted time and lack of khushoo in slaah, followed by a reinstallation a couple of days later when my desire for the game rises once more. This cycle has happened with me a lot of times.. But Alhumdulillah, ive seen a few video tafseers of Surah Al-Asr as well as the opening part of Surat Al-Mu’minoon and that has really helped me curb my love for wasting time. Esp when you look at Surat al Mu’minoon, you find that the successful ones are the true believers. As a gamer, my definition of success had changed to simply pwning random unknown opponents in a video game, whereas Allah tells us succesful ppl are those who pray with khushoo, WHO TURN AWAY FROM LAGHW etc. And to be frank video games are nothing less than Laghw. Laghw = useless activity in terms of aakhirah or dunya. Video games are just that. If Allah ta’ala has sent an aayah that the successful people are those who turn away from laghw, i must also turn away from it. Alhumdulillah, this has helped me develop some degree of self-control with respect to these time-wasting video games.
Very nice article, jzk.

However i have realized that vid games are not gonna get me any where in life and by spending time on it I’m only wasting my time. But still reading about them is hard to avoid, so the way to solve this problem i have to take an oath that i wouldnt go on it for like 2 months, and alhumdullilah its working. But i wouldn’t advise that to anyone cause taking oaths and breaking them are huge sins. Anyways this is a great article, giving the exact reasons why they are so amazing p.s Call of duty is a garbage game.

Very interesting article/post. Love it as a gamer myself. In retrospect I do currently have this ‘addiction’ problem. Well its as much addiction as one is ‘addicted’ to reading books.

I watched this video saying that gaming addiction is a misnomer and a sensationalist label to demonize gaming. Well, I can’t explain very well, so I’ll just drop the links to the videos in question here. Its a two-part video.

But I do see the point of this post. The fervor and effort to games can and should be put to other more beneficial activities. InsyaAllah my compulsion to gaming, and to a lesser extend, overall laziness, is decreased in time and do devote more time to aim for Jannah.

But pc games have less harm to others so i choose this one.
