Our neighbours in hong kong are mostly chinese, who don’t want to have anything to do with the non-chinese except hello hi when we meet at the lifts.

Are people who are living in the same building as us but on different floors can also be considered as neighbors? and what about those living in near by buildings?

I found the following on :

The Holy Prophet is said to have defined the “neighbour” in these words: Your neighbour is 40 houses ahead of you and 40 houses at your back, 40 houses to your left and 40 houses to your right.

I hope that answers your question.
