Akram | My Lord Increase Me in Knowledge https://productivemuslim.com/al-muhaddithat-the-women-scholars-in-islam/#comment-81385 Mon, 23 Feb 2015 14:42:54 +0000 http://www.productivemuslim.com/al-muhaddithat-the-women-scholars-in-islam/#comment-81385 […] The 10 page preface of the book was enlightening as to the authors own mindset and his reasons for reading his book and it was unfortunately a shortcoming on my behalf that I had not taken enough time to understand it and only really began to understand it when I revisited it upon completion of the book. The shaykh makes it clear that the work is not a work of ‘Women’s studies’ which i had expected, which is to say, Shaykh Akram makes it clear that his work is not a work focused on implications or addressing arguments rather it is from a clear Islamic perspective addressing the question of “What was the historical role of women in the field of Islamic scholarship?” and nothing more. The book begins with a very important point which is that the book is not based on, or answering the question from the perspective of “If men can why can’t women?” of which you can read more about here. well wisher- I just saw your comment after all these years and it made me laugh a lot. Thanks for pointing out the error; it has been edited.

The book itself is in English. However it is a preface to a 40 volume biographical dictionary of the Muhaddithat which is in Arabic. Hope that makes things clearer.

Ws.

If early generation muslim women were proactive and had that independence to going about contributing to society, then shouldn’t this give us as 21st century muslim women the motivation to attempt to do something similiar?

What happened to the ummah!? and where did all this (mis)understanding that muslim women are solely confined to the home come from….!?

I need this book.
